10-22 recievers

Are all Ruger 10-22 recievers the same. I see some don't have the ruger stamp on them, mostly the compact. I saw 2 identical with 18 1/2 bbl length and one said carbine and the other marked 10-22. Some of the newer have the longer magazine release, but other than that I assume the recievers are the same???

On older rifles they either had 10-22 Rifle, or 10-22 Carbine depending on barrel length. Newer versions just say 10-22. I have examples of all 3.

I don't own one, but think the target versions had 10-22 Target on them. At least on he older versions.

Several years ago they started using an extended mag release and a synthetic material for the trigger group. Both are improvements. The older trigger groups were made from cheap painted cast aluminum which was weaker than the synthetic now being used. The paint was bad about flaking off after time as well.

I don't know what other improvements were made, but all of the newer versions are much more accurate than older versions I own.

I guess I have not payed attention to earlier models. We do have one from 1974 that I made my wifes custom out of and mine is from 2010 and about the only thing stock on is now is the receaver and all the parts interchange between them. Old 10/22 or anodized , new models are painted and can be stripped and polished. Spray cleans can strip the paint too.

The receiver is one of the weak points of the stock 10/22 design. Going to an aftermarket receiver increases stiffness and accuracy. Just a thought.
