Just wandering cause i have two 10/22s and the older one has some scratches on the reciever and some rust on the barrel and the newer one has some slight scratches onthe barrel.

The receiver is aluminum. Birchwood-Casey makes an "Aluminum Black" which is similar to cold blue. This may or may not produce good results, depending on how it works for you.

You can also use a permanent marker to color the scratches.

For the rust on the steel barrel, first apply a good lube like CLP Breakfree and allow to soak a day or so to loosen the rust.
Then apply more lube and brush with a brass "toothbrush". This will remove the rust without damaging the surrounding blue like using steel wool will.

With the rust off, you can use standard cold blue to cover the bare metal, you can use a marker, or you can simply paint the barrel.

Brownell's Oxpho-Blue works good for me on steel. I have never had any real success on aluminum, permanent marker seems as good as any.

Buy some Krylon ultra flat black spray paint and just hose the barrel and the action. Spray paint is renewable. And protects the action and barrel from the environment.

As mentioned the problem is the aluminum receiver, depending on how bad the scratches are I'd also consider the Krylon flat paints. I've done several rifles with it and it actually holds up fairly decent if you dry it with a hair dryer set on high to warm it up. You will need to really degrease everything first ot get it to stick, then put their matte clear over it. This pistol has the frame done with the Krylon, no clear on it yet though.

I used the Birchwood Casey black marker to touch up the trigger guard on my 10/22. It worked OK, but be sure to degrease completely before applying the paint.
