Well I pulled the trigger so to speak and ordered a Winchester starter cannon. It takes 10 ga 2 7/8 blanks. A box of blanks costs right at $50. I have never reloaded shotgun shells (been loading metallic for 10 years) I am thinking that these could be loaded by myself for consderably less. However I dont have any books with blackpowder or shotgun info. (I will be getting a book before loading, I am looking to jumpstart my knowlege as I acquire necessary loading stuff)

Has anyone ever loaded shotgun blanks? I am told that real BP works best for effect. My plan is obviously to start with a small charge, and work up.

Got any suggestions for 10 GA?

Thanks Guys

I would suggest you haunt EvilBay and pick up an old 10ga Lee Loader like this.

For BP cannon blanks, all you need to have is a way to deprime (a punch & hammer) and safely reprime (The Lee set-up) cases.

A dipper of FFFF black powder, and paper wadding followed by a card wad to keep it in place. They can be glued in with elmers glue so no crimp is required.

I have a Lee Loader for 10 ga.

It was passed to me, but I don't plan on reloading any 10 ga shells. It doesn't state what size, so I would assume just 2 3/4. But it is in perfect usable condition.

You can have it for $35 shipped. Pictures are below.
