I was just in my local gunshop and the lady has a used hipoint 9mm carbine with soft case and two 10rd mags for $100. The blueing has a couple rust spots, bore is good, black synthetic pistol grip w/regular buttstock stock, and nylon sling.
Is it worth it? If I get it and hate it, can I get my money back? It is not attractive, but I just want a RELIABLE truck gun. I am concerned about RELIABILITY issues. I dont care much for accuracy, but it should be obvious by now that RELIABILITY is #1 to me. Dont talk to me about looks, ergonomics, etc.
thanks

For $100, buy it. From what I've heard and seen, they are very reliable and accurate. I've only fired one, once (thanks Bowlcut), and I was impressed. Not so impressed that I'm going to run out and buy one anytime soon; but, if I had the extra cash, was in the market for a reliable, inexpensive (both to buy and feed), pistol caliber carbine, then yeah, I'd buy one.

People (including myself) may make disparaging comments about Hi-point's pistols, but their carbines are a different matter.

I've had mine for quite w while now and is very accurate and reliable. I'd say $100 is a good price, and the warranty on it is great too, but you probably won't need it.

I have heard good things as well about the Hi Point carbine. So much so that I'm waiting to take delivery of a new one through my FFL for $165 without a soft case and only one mag. The $100 sounds good to me.

Also my FFL sells many guns on consignment and has a three day inspection period including a test firing of the gun. You may want to ask your shop owner if they would give you a similar deal.

;)

the only problem i have ever had with mine is the sights rattled loose and fell off. but hi-point is sending me a whole new set for free.
if you get it i would suggest put a couple drops of loctite blue on the screws that hold the sights on.

and 100 for all that is a pretty good deal .. at least around here it is.

done it!

against my better judgement I went and got it today. Got the soft case, carbine, two mags, sling, and the dealer is going to get me the scope rail for $108 out the door. Should make it to the range with it in a couple of weeks. Let you know how it does. Oh and picked up a 100rd Wally pack on the way. I am set.

well considering that if you go to hipoints website and fill out that email a question form they well send you the rail for free. i did that asking about purchasing a rear site....a week later it was in my mail box. i like the rifle alot. fun to plink with....leave the peep sight on it tho. i had a red dot on mine for a while, while cool....just wasnt as much fun as the peep i think. the carbine is worth every penny, and i do mean penny cause they are cheap, that they cost. i got mine with a reddot out the door for 200 after all was said and done. so 100 for one needing some TLC id be happy to do. and alot of the stuff isnt blued....but powdercoated....

I was happy to read this HiPoint thread~

My wife's father has wanted to purchase an inexpensive carbine for quite a while. He's mentioned the HiPoint carbine before, and he's said that it comes in other calibers too. Including .223. Anybody know if this is true?
An inexpensive rifle~~fancy that!:D

K.R.,

I haven't heard anything about the Hi-Point carbine coming in .223 but Ky Imports has the 9mm listed at $149.99 NIB. (159.99 in chrome.)

A friend of mine is probably going to pick up one to plink with. I am axious to check it out.

The Hi-Point doesn't currently come in any caliber except 9mm. The .40 and .45 versions should be released this year, but it seems to be taking them a while for some reason. I can't imagine Hi-Point producing .223 versions of their rifle anytime soon. Maybe he was thinking of that Kel-Tec SU16?

Here's the website for the SU-16. It looks like kind of a neat rifle, but seems too expensive to me. http://www.kel-tec.com/su-16_rifle.htm

This is the website for the Hi-Point carbine. http://www.mkssupply.com/carbine.asp

Update on that Hi-Point for anyone who cares. I went ahead and emailed them again, and they told me that the .40 carbine should be available in retail stores this month. The response didn't say anything about the .45, so I guess they ran into some problems or something.
