We have done this before of course, this if for the newer folks.

Keep in mind THR Mission Statement.

Here is the deal - let us suppose you have $1000.00 free and clear to spend any way you wish in regard to firearms, ammo, accessories, RKBA, taking a training class [firearm, first aid, martial arts, non-firearm weapons, defensive driving...etc.] Edged Weapons [knife] buying books, Books on Tape, teaching others, Getting a CCW, Instructor's Status, donations to assist, start a blog...etc.

You choose to spend -

What?
How?
Why?

Regards,

Steve

I would:

What - Why

Join the NRA - 2nd Amendment protection
Join the GOA - more 2nd amendment protection
Make a donation to the WCCA - help get CCW passed in WI

Buy a bolt or lever .22lr rifle http://thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=198345&highlight=bolt+lever+semi+.22 - Get my first firearm and get into shooting

Buy a 12 gauge shotgun - Home defense, and versatile firearm

Take a NRA basic rifle course - Firearm training

Anything left would be used to make a donation to running THR, and saved to eventually get an AR-15, and when I turn 21, a handgun. - These are the odds 'n ends: help keep an excellent forum that I greatly enjoy up and running; need to get a semi-auto rifle, can't forget about those handguns... :)

Of course I am going to do all of this eventually, the $1000 dollars would just make it all happen sooner and easier. ;)

No particular order:

Map reading/ navigation course
First Aid/ EMT course and well-stocked kit
Used Smith Model 10, 4" bull bbl and ammo
Cold Steel Gurkha Khukri
CCW license

At this point, I would buy a Browning semi-auto .22 rifle, and spend the rest on bulk ammo in every caliber I own.

What? An XD-45, extra mags, lots of ammo, duty holster. The rest would go into getting a CHL.

How? Local gunstore. As for the CHL? I live in beautiful california, but I can pull it off because I'm currently a security guard.

Why? Well I want the XD-45 for it's superior firepower in a somewhat small, light package. I'm also joining the local PD academy soon. One day I hope to actually be a member of one of the local law enforcement agencies. With this gun, I'm covered if I join an agency that requires you to provide your own firearm(s).

I would pay off $1000 of my medical bills so I can get a bit out of debt. As is, I can hardly think about buying a box of .22lr, nevermind a new firearm, nevermind a package of targets.

I'd pay off the Smith M60 .38 Special I have on layaway and put the rest in the bank. I'm saving up for another full auto firearm.

Well lets see;

Glass upgrade for the VLS (aprox.) 400
2nd press, new tumbler, & ast case tools (aprox.) 300
Dehydrator for Turkey / venison jerky (aprox.) 100
Then foolishly use the rest for a computer upgrade.

Donate it to the U.N. to secure...

world peace, eliminate hunger, and erradicate all illness.

or: I'd look for a HK P7.

tough choice...

"Buy gold or bulk 7.62x39, whichever is likely worth more at the moment!"

You beat me to it.

I'd stock up on 7.32x39mm ammo, maybe buy nice cowboy lever action .22, I'd donate some to a gun organization like the NRA, I'd buy a 12 or 20 gauge shotgun, I'd get some accesories for my SAR-1. I'd try to save the rest if I had anything left over. That way when I turn 21, hello custom ingraved .45:D .

Just last week I made that choice.

Took home a second .223 Kel Tec PLR-16 pistol and a Kel Tec SU16-CA .223 rifle.

Why?
Because everyone needs a second PLR-16,
and
The first PLR is so accurate, 1+ to 2+" at 100 yards, and is such an interesting gun that I thought I'd try the rifle.:)

$1000 ??

I would buy Barbara Boxer and Diane Feinstein each a one way ticket to France. If I had any change left, I would buy the bear for the party.

Hmmmmm
My wife says that I absolutely can not buy any more guns.

Until we get another safe, so I'd buy another safe.:D

What?

A large chunk off of a FN PS90

How?

Sneaking it in so my wife won't beat me to death with it or take it from me to use for her own, so I'd have to get another one.

Why?

Goa'uld, zombies, s-and-grins, etc. :)

Actually, I would rather spend $1000 on a decent camera and some glass.

But to be on topic...

SU16: $500
CZ75B: $400
Extra mags for both: $100
