It's time for me to start handloading for my 10mm Witness now that it has passed the 200 round "break-in Period", so I have a few questions.

I am making rounds for hunting pigs and deer and was planning on using 165gr bullets, but it seems most people are using 180 or 200gr. Is the 165gr Golden Saber inadequite for hunting? Would a 180gr bullet be a better choice?

Does anyone have any IMR-800X load data for a 165gr bullet? I looked at the IMR web site and they have data for 155gr and 180gr bullets, so from that I deducted that a load for a 165gr might be between 8.4 and 9.4gr of 800X. Does that sound reasonable?

    Thanks for any help.

10mm Reloading Forum at Glocktalk will give you a lot of info. Try starting at 10.0gr 800X and working up to 11.0gr this will give you about 1350fps from your Witness. FWIW, I would recommend a 180gr or heavier for hogs weighing more than 150lbs.

Might recommend 200g Hornady XTP or their FMJ.

What would be good for plinking and SD? Too bad they dont sell WinRanger bullets alone.

For target practice, I've been using the Blazer 200gr TMJ. I started using those just because they are cheap, but I've found that round is a decent shooter and I like not having to chase brass when I go to the indoor range. I have gone through 250 of those with out a single stopage. When I get to handloading for targets or linking, I'll probably do a 165gr bullet at about 1100fps. For SD I will stick with factory ammo, but I don't have one picked out yet as I have other guns filling that role.
