Will a 10mm semi-auto stop / kill a charging (Visa, M.C. or A.E., lol) BiG Bear if you hit shoulder & vitals with several well rapid placed shots...seriously, though?

What is more viable, realistically (not theoretically...that is obvious .500 )...the ONE shot you may have time for with a S&W .500 and NO follow up...or 3 or so shots from a 10mm Glock?

My uncle actually killed one with a 10mm 1911 back in the late 80's. He was living up in Alaska at the time and it surprised him one night really close to his house! :what::eek::uhoh: I'm not sure if it was a charging bear though - I think my uncle started shooting before it could get very far.

So, yes it CAN be done. However given what I've heard about those bears, if I had to go up against one I'd much rather have something more powerful. You know... like a shoulder-fired missile!

In all seriousness though, maybe 10mm would be a good BUG for bear country?

When compared to my light .350 carabine it's stopping power is miniscule. It is unlikely one would escape serious injury or death. To stop charge with authority one would need 500grains at 2200+/-100fps (.450/400, .470, .475 .465/500,...)
