When you install a slug barrel on a light contour (not the regular) 12 ga 11-87, do you install the gas cylinder collar or not? The 11-87 owner's manual doesn't tell you. Tried a search on here and didn't find it. I don't have the instructions that come with the barrel and wasn't able to find them (as yet) on the Remington website).

If you have a barrel with the gas relief valve in the gas ring, and a wooden fore end, yes. That collar is designed to protect the fore end. Whether it needs it or not I do not know. I was extremely used to 1100s when I got an 11-87. Forgot the collar. For a year. I had sold the gun and noticed this piece in my cleaning box/tool kit. I gave it to the guy I sold it to, but I really don't think he bothered either. The synthetic stocks don't use them.

Well, that seems to solve it. I had to get an extra "regular" forend to go w/ the slug barrel, as the light contour forend doesn't fit around the slug barrel's outside dimensions. SO it sounds like I need the gas cylinder collar to protect the larger forend at any rate. Thanks.
