I shoot Dragoons with real BP and Track of the Wolf nipples for #11 caps. Should I buy magnum caps or stick with standard?
Thanks

TOW recommends CCI standard #11's.
The extra primer material may not allow the magnum caps to seat the same.
The ignition is basically directly into the chamber.
Unless there's ignition problems or trouble finding standard #11 caps.
But if you really want to try them, maybe you'll like the magnums.
It's a roll of the dice I guess.

What he said.

I also have ToTW nipples and tried the CCI magnums and all too often had to hit them twice. I can’t find the standard #11’s but what I’ve found is the Rem #10’s work great. Not a single issue ever.

First off I would like to say hello to everyone on this forum as I just joined. I have been a member of the cast boolet forum for some time but enjoyed reading the post here as well. As for the op question I have tow, amoco and slixshot nipples installed on my revolvers and I only use Remington #10 caps. I to tried CCI #11 magnums with the tow nipples and they most of the time required two hits to fire.

I poked through some search results about CCI #11 Magnum caps and they work with some Pietta revolvers.

However Tyril said,
"the cap would violently explode off of the nipple, and shoot little cap-parts everywhere. I had about 10% jamming rate, too, from cap-bits getting stuck in the lockwork. Didn't have a single hang fire though. I'm getting normal #11s next time!"
He was shooting a Pietta Remington and this was in a thread about wearing EYE PROTECTION where another poster was hit in the hand by a cap fragment. HINT! --->>> https://www.thehighroad.org/index.php?threads/wear-your-shooting-glasses.190788/#post-2336068

Some ROA folks like to use them and they worked in Pohill's Uberti Walker without a mention of double strikes, and in a Pietta 1851 .36 and an unnamed brasser.
Tyril also mentioned that there were no misfires using them with paper cartirdges.
FYI, Winchester #11 Magnums are relabeled CCI's.

Mr.powdermark...only Remington caps! You wont need magnum caps to set off black powder especially in cap guns. The nipple is directly in contact with powder unlike in a side lock where it might have to turn a corner. Straight shot of flame and hot gasses...even a standard cap is way more than enough. Use remington caps as they have a better build...they usually stay whole when they burst and "pedal" open like a flower...unlike CCI's that usually turn into shrapnel and awkward pieces that can and will jam the gun. Also remington 11s and 10s work great with treso, slixshot, TOTW aftermarket nipples.

Welcome @LST-1185

@PowderMark I've only used magnums on inline rifles that take #11's. Never really thought about using them with revolvers but doesn't seem like they'd be necessary.

If you have both available I'd go standard.

I always thought #10s were for my pistols and #11s were for rifles, I have used the #11 magnum caps when I tried pellets in a Knight inline.

Depends on the nipples. I've used #11's at one point or another on pretty much all of my c&b revolvers.

Slowly converting to Treso/Ampco's on a lot of them and they tend to do better with the 11's. The only tens that work on these are Remingtons.

For the real stuff, no reason to go magnum. I never have anyway, and usually only shoot BP in freezing temps. If I was shooting low sulfur homemade, or subs in cold weather, I might.

Where I live you don't see #10 Remington caps very often and that is going back to the 1980s. Remington #10 caps fit most of my guns well. I have been resizing #11 CCI caps with the Smokein'Joes cap sizer and my cap jams have mostly stopped. My resized CCI caps fit tighter than Remington caps and a lot of the fired caps stay on the nipples and they don't fragment anymore.
