Bought a cheap china 11mm scope mount off ebay before last deer season, removed the rear sight on a mosin and mounted a weaver scout scope. Worked, and bagged a couple deer. But its always in the back of my mind that the mount is junk and will fail at some point. Any quality 11mm dove tail scope mount recommendations? I dont want any other type of mosin scope mount, I really want to utilize the dove tail. Or should I just not fix whats not broken (yet :) ) and keep the cheap-o until I see evidence that its falling apart.

@ Lobo9er
It would be helpful if we saw Exactly what mount you have.
There is not just one Chinese 11mm mount, and recomendations for upgrades can only be given for a specific mount.

basically mine. the link is slightly different to picture but both are from china and looks like mine. I paid I think 10-11 bucks if not less, shipped from china.

I take it you are removing your rear sight, and intend on installing this type of mount on the reverse dovetail on the barrel that use to hold your rear sight on.
Then using a Long Eye relief scope.
I have never see rhem stay on or in alignment that way.
If you are going to do the LER Scope, then get the scope base set up that replaces your rear sight blade.
What you have is made for air rifles and will come apart no matter what you do.
Are they selling these for scope installation on the Mosin Nagants ?

no they are not. It did however survive sighting in and deer season A-ok. But I too fear the falling apart in its future. As of now I'm not interested in the mount you describe. only utilizing the dove tail. Theres gotta be a quality Dove tail mount offered by someone... or maybe there isn't... Its the journey though right. The thrill of the search:)

@ Lobo9er
The dovetails you are using are for locating the original rear sight.
When you try to use a Dovetail scope base on them, they are only clamping and Squeezing in from the sides.
And the angle of the dovetail on the barrel and the scope base are not the same angle.
Plus there is a Gap under your scope base to the flat on top of the barrel.
I made a Brass Shim that took up that gap for someone one time, and it made the base a little more stable.
But you have to tighten the screws on the base so tight to keep it from moving, that the screws can strip out easily and even break under recoil.
What you have will Work, for a little while, but it by far is not a good set up by any means.

If you want to use what you have, then check the angles of the clamping surfaces, and look to see if there is a gap like I described that can be filled, to make the base bottom tight to your flat spot on your barrel.
That way it takes up and down pressure off your clamping dovetails.

LAGS thank you for the tips. My set up may not work like you say I will heed your warning and check it out for sure.

@ Lobo9er
I have got similar set ups to work better than when I first saw them.
It is just a matter if finding the perticular weak points in your design of mount and set up.
Just take you time and evaluate it closely, and see what you can come up with, and run your idea by me if you want.
You will be suprised with the things I have come up with.
