Someone mentioned the Dixie (great stuff) Tri-Ball. Good choice there too! Three hard tight-grouping buffered .60 balls each with as much weight as a sabot and more energy combined than 3" Magnum buckshot loads.
 
The only place bears are likely to be a problem for us is in the mountains of western NC, where there are black bears. A while back one of the local population of blackies was wandering around on the porch at my in-laws' place for a couple of days, looking in the windows.

The 870 that has gone along with us on every visit since then has adjustable rifle sights, which have been zeroed for the Brennekes with which that gun is loaded.
