Note however that it's behind the counter now. Don't know if it was always this way in that store, but many stores I frequent have moved the ammo from the aisle and put it somewhere more restricted.

The last gun store I was in had boxes and boxes of various brand .223 out on a table.....in the middle of the store...and there was no rush of crazed customers. :)

American Eagle its a 40 round box not 50. A nice 20% increase in price.

The American Eagle .22 we were buying in TN and VA back in 1997 was 40 round boxes. That is not a recent change. It was however more reliable than most .22 and highly thought by rural folks who counted on their .22s Yeah, the intitial reaction back then was WTH? 40? But the quality won converts.

I work at that Gander. The last time we had more than 10 of those cases we had 115 for $499.99 in February

Yeah, that place is really making me question IF I ever want to buy anything from them again. Used to really look forward to visiting that gunshop.

They have/had a M63 Smith for sale. It is priced above retail ($820) and the guy said... they're "hard to find"... I believe it is also a used gun they are trying to sell as new.

Their ammunition is high high high. Bought a box of 9mm to day for about $20 (PMC plinking ammo). Need it to supply our summer guest who wants to go shooting. A single box isn't much, but that is about all I am willing to buy on their behalf. I don't own any 9mm guns.

Prices go up easy enough, but almost never go back down to pre anything pricing. They are up and the will most likely stay up. They may go down a little to split the difference but I would not hold my breath.

I went to the ECA gunshow in Belleville, IL today to price some ammo. :what:
While there was more of certain items, it was NOT a pleasant outing. :fire:
What is was really looking for was .22LR, .22 Mag, .380, .38 Spec., and .357.
Here's the bad news:

.22LR
American Eagle - $50 for 500;
CCI Blazers - $60 for 500;
Centurion (?) - $45 for 500;
Rem. Golden - $65 for 525. :eek:

22 Mag
CCI TNT V-Max - $28 for 50 (had been $12.50 at the show 2 months ago);
Hornady V-Max - $25 for 50 (also $12.50 at last show). :cuss: :barf:

.380
The only ammo I could even find was Speer Gold Dot, 20 rds., 90 gr. JHP and it has gone from $19.99 to $25 at one dealer and $28 at another! :cuss:

38 Sp.
Fed Prem. (part # XM38HSIG, 129 gr.) $35/50;
Hornady Critical Defense FTX (part #90311, 110 gr.) - up to $24 (from $20) for 25 rds.;
PMC (132 gr FMJ) - up $2 to $22/50;
Speer Gold Dot (part # 23921, 135 gr.) - $27 for 20 rds.;
Winchester Bonded PDX1 (130 gr.) - up $2.50 to $25 for 20 rds.

.357
Hornady Critical Defense XTP (125 gr.) - $23/25 rds., up $1;
Rem. Golden Saber (125 gr.) - two months ago, this same dealer was selling it for $20 for 25 rds. Now, they are selling at $33 for the same 25 rds.!! :what: :barf: :cuss: :fire:

You know, I've always wondered about such claims on rimfire reliability. I've shot untold thousands of rounds of .22 LR and .22 WMR and I literally cannot remember the last time I had a misfire. Growing up, I shot CCI .22 Magnums almost exclusively in my rifle. My .22 Automag shoots Winchester .22 WMR exclusively. My .22 LR rifles generally shoot Remington, with an occasional mix of CCI Choot-Ems recently. I've shot quite a bit of Federal with no problems.

In my experience, the general reliability of any brand of .22 that I've ever shot has been so high that the concern over a misfire at any given time has never been a consideration for me. If it's accurate, consistent, and goes "BANG" when I pull the trigger, then I generally pick up whatever's cheapest for how my gun's are sighted in.

Not to say that others haven't had a problem, mind you...just that I've never personally seen any significant evidence of misfire issues with any .22 ammunition I've ever used.

:)

I'm betting on the virtue of patients. A lot of buying is going on right now but not a lot of shooting. I think people are just hoarding up or just buying and trying to sell but the market will stabilize and people will sell off their excess that they don't need. You can see the AR prices coming down now because supply is catching up and I suspect everything else will follow suit in its own time.
rifles are coming down because of no ammo. car prices would drop when you could only get one gallon of gas a week

LOL. the local free Thrifty Nickel's and White sheet's show the greedy still offering CF Rifle & handgun ammo for a buck and up per round and a 50 round box of .22 rf for 15 dollars. I am hoping they really take it in the shorts as the retailer's prices continue to fall.

Put me in the "wheres it all going?" camp. Factories are at full capacity and still none on the shelves? Its just hard to believe. I was one of these panic buyers until 1) i realized it was costing A LOT (or better yet , my wife figured that out)-and- 2) i realized that if i ever have to "fight" the gubment, how many 9mm, 380, and 223 rds will i actually shoot before im eradicated by a drone rocket

Amen!

While I believe in free enterprise, and the seller can ask any price they want, the buyer can also refuse to buy and, if they feel insulted, never by anything from that seller again.

That is a part of a free market. So scalpers, lots of luck with all that ammo.

Put me in the "wheres it all going?" camp.

They're an awful lot of people out there that own guns of all kinds, but they don't shoot them very often. Then after a isoluted but horrific shooting incident in CT. our leftist leader in Washington, with the full support of his party, decide the time has come to get a bunch of gun and ammunition control laws the wanted in the first place passed. Gun owners who maybe buy anything from one box a year to one box in a decade panic and go out and try to buy what for them is a lifetime supply, this because they trust the government's good intentions about as far as they can toss a bull elephant.

Then when the drop into they're favorite ammunition seller they notice the shelves are bare, and the same is true no matter where they go. :eek: :eek:

So now they really panic!!! :eek: :eek: :eek: :eek: :eek:

And that is where most of the ammunition is going and why past supplies are gone. But at least in some places the situation is starting to get better.

Maybe... :uhoh:

1,700 bricks in six days?

Presuming it's open daily from 9AM to 7PM that's 28.33 bricks per hour... For a LGS!

We should have known that this was gonna be a longer and broader drought than ever before. And I'm afraid the assault on our rights will be started all over again as soon as they get a chance...

One LGS finally got a delivery of federal xm193 ball 55 grain 223. Its out gpr $299.99 per 500 round case. A bit high but there is no limit to how much you can purchase. At this point its worth a little extra to be able buy in bulk with no limit.
So you pay a little extra for this "insurance" in some quantity at this time -- it could be alot worse. If you feel you need it you did o.k. So you and the Mrs. (or maybe you are the Mrs.?) will skip a night out at the movies...

Last week in Academy, they had a few boxes of AE 223 black box for 8.99, got my one box limit. Just came from Branson Mo after a weekend get-a-way, at Bass pro, they had the most 5.56 ammo I've seen in a long time, it was the Independce brand for 10.97. Must have been 8-10 cases sitting on the self. I was going to get my limit on the way out, but had brake failure during the trip and cost me 300.00, so no ammo this time.

30-06 was 45$ for a box 'o 20, 3 years ago, and gas was 7.85$ a gallon and still holding.....

Bulk buy and rotate stock as you shoot it off. Whe panic strikes, stop shooting.....

There is hope in my area too. A local gun store sent out an email saying they received 170,000 rounds of 9mm and 70,000 rounds of 223. $20 per 50 round box for 9mm and $27 for 223 with no limits. It went on sale at 5pm and I arrived at 6pm and it was still there and no mob. I stopped by to get some 32 ACP which they also had in stock. I almost didn't go because I expected them to be swamped with hoarders.

As one of our esteemed moderators just recently posted elsewhere...

The good news is at no time in American history has so much ammunition found its way into the hands of Americans.

Just think about how many boxes of every type of ammunition is now sitting at home instead of on the store shelves.
