i recently found out on accident. wasnt really an accident. just wasnt counting how many bullets i was putting in. the 13rnd xd 45 mags will hold 14. if you install it in the pistol. it wont latch. untill you pull the slide and chamber that extra round. i am wondering if this ok to do or will it ruin the magazine. i have heard on older guns, that storing mags at their full capacity will weaken the spring. but what about these? i kind of like the idea of having the extra. i wish there was 15 round mags available for these. it would be sweet to be able to carry 30 rounds of 45.

Here's my take on it, owning 2 wonderful XD45ACP Service models. It's also my carry piece.

The gun was made to function with 13 rounds in the magazine and one in the chamber. That's how I use it, and it works flawlessly. If they had meant for the magazines to hold 14 rounds, they'd have drilled another witness hole.

It already holds 13 rounds in less real estate than the Glock 21 or USP45 holds its magazine, and it holds 1 more round than many popular double stack .45s.

Okay I admit it I secretly desire SA would make 20 round extended magazines just for fun, but for everyday use I'm quite satisfied with 14 rounds of .45 ACP on tap.

I wouldn't try squeezin the extra round in,

it may be putting undue pressure on your mag lips forcing it in like that.

besides that, my expeiance with overloading mags (M1 carbine 30 rounders hold 31 or 32 sometimes) you just wind up jamming the first few rounds.

The extra pressure from the rounds under it can lead to stovepipes.

The fact that the 13 round mag can hold 14 rounds just means that the designers decided that the mag would be more reliable loading it one round shy of max capacity.

some gun designers don't fess up, if you've ever played with a bryco jennings 9, try to get the first 2 to fire reliably, if you can, you're a better man than I. that 12 rounder should be called a 10.

the worst that could happen is you bind up your mag spring and jam on the first round.

well i think i will just keep 13 in the mag then. and when i need 14. i will load the mag, then chamber, then drop the mag, and put another one in the mag.

Here's hoping that you never need any of em.

Nothing better than having a gun that is always there but never needed.

Don't, you can crush the springs and destroy spring life. They were only designed to compress for 13 rounds, overcompression will crush and flatten the springs. If the metal of the mag body is soft you can also put wear on that, also on the baseplate.

You mentioned that the magezine won't latch with the extra round loaded in there, so let's say you try to carry the 15 rounds? You'll chamber one and then your magezine won't catch on the mag release anyway....you'll have one shot, better make it a good one.
I wouldn't be too concerned with the mag spring per se, they are designed to be compressed. It's the constant compression and rarefaction that cause springs to wear out.
I'd stick with what the designers tell you to: 13+1
If you really need more than 28 rounds,
RUN AWAY!

im just gonna stay at the 13+1. i have tried to do the 14 in the mag trick tonight. and i cant get it to do it tonight. with the same ammo. but a true15 roung mag would be still be sweet. not for personal defense, but mainly for target shooting.

its sopposed to fit 14 rounds go to springfiledarmory.com and click xd45 wish i could fit 14 round mine came with a 10 round clip cali
