I have my Lymans 49th on the way as I am looking to start reloading for a 40. I cant find any data for a 140g TCFP from Missouri Bullet. Anyone have a starting point while I am waiting for my latest manual to get here?

Wow, no one loads a 140g lswc? I load 185 and 200g for my 45 depending on what I am competing in for the weekend. The .40 is going to to be my Steel Challenge and USPSA gun when I am not shooting SS with the .45.

Hello gungamer and welcome to the forum...

If you're going to load a lot of lead bullets you just have to buy the Lyman Cast Bullet Handbook 4th Edition. It has all the cast bullet data that's in the Lyman 49th Edition plus a whole lot more.

The have load data for a 145gr LSWC bullet, Lee #401-145-SWC. You can safely use that data for your 140gr bullet. The list 14 powders and I really don't want to write them all out so if you give me a handful of powders you have on hand or want to use I'll list that data for you.

Everything I load for the 45 is lead. When I decided to go with the 40 as well is when I ran into data issues, hence the purchase of more reloading manuals (Lymans). What I have on hand is Bullseye, W231 and Power Pistol. Only been reloading for about a year and its been most enjoyable and informative. This forum has been a great resource and I tend to post less and lurk more as I research different topics. Going to start loading 9mm in lead as well. once I get loads worked up for the rest of my guns I am looking into casting my own! One thing at a time though!

I use that same bullet using accurate # 2 at 5.0 grains and it works great shooting it out of a glock even.

What I have on hand is Bullseye, W231 and Power Pistol.
With the above mentioned 145gr LSWC bullet here's the data for those powders:

Bullseye - 5.4gr Starting charge and 6.0gr Max charge. 982 - 1066 fps
W231 - 5.0gr Starting charge and 5.6gr Max charge. 1018 - 1079 fps
Powder Pistol - 6.4gr Starting charge and 7.2gr Max charge. 1058 - 1179 fps
(velocities from a 4" Universal Receiver)

NOTE, Lyman lists that 6.4gr Power Pistol load as potentially most accurate.

Just in case here are two other powders that will work well with lead bullets in the 40:
AA#5 - 7.2gr Starting charge and 8.0gr Max charge. 1022 - 1174 fps
HS-6 - 7.5gr Starting charge and 8.3gr Max charge. 1055 - 1166 fps

Hope that helps...

Thanks ArchAngel, it does. I checked the shipping info and my Lymans manual should be here Monday or Tuesday of next week.
