Since I'm on a shoestring budget, I've checked out a Mossberg 12 ga pump ("persuader") at Wal-mart and can't fault it. Purpose? Home defense. It has that "tactical" look: all black with high-impact plastic stock. I'm not going to be pumping thousands of rounds through it and I could plunk down cash for it right now and have $$$ left over for ammo. Oh yes.....that ammo thing: #4 or #00 buckshot (or what else?) for effective home defense??

Appreciate your input..................best wishes.............

:what : that sounds cheap!

i'd jump on that,i might have to go to wally world, too:D

as far as load,i'd go with the #4 for HD(less penetration)

just my $.02.

I think you read the price tag wrong.

The Presuader is selling for $249 at Dick Sporting Good in Maryland.

I don't think Wal*Mart can knock off $100.

They are a good gun though. I bought mine a little over 2 years ago, I put a Tac Star stock and side saddle on it. It's been a good gun for me.

If one of the idiots at Wal*Mart miss marked it for the $149 consider yourself VERY lucky.

If it is just $149, jump on it. Great price on a Big Four pumpgun.

While you're there, pick up a few sleeves of the Federal, Winchester, or Remington generic ammo, the stuff that comes in a 100 pack in four boxes sleeved into a unit. Good ammo, good price even off sale.

After BA/UU/R, try some buck at the longest shot distance possible in your domicile plus a yard. Go with the tightest grouping.

If that's the price, pick it up. I paid $140 for a used Mossy 500 A. You can buy an Outer's cadet stock set for the 500 for about $35 from Natchez; use #1 Buck for home defense (see recent thread under shotgun section.)

I paid $195. for mine back in 1999.

i've seen one of those "mossberg's" at wally world and they're actually mavericks, which is a cheaper version of the mossberg.

All the Mossy's I've seen in the various Wal-Marts in Florida have all been actual Mossbergs. Don't think I've ever come across a Maverick new in the store.

My first shotgun was a Mossberg Maverick 88 bought at Roses for around $170 NIB. Now it primarily serves as a lender; never had any complaints.
Absolutely nothing wrong with it even to this day, countless shells later.

The cheapest retail price for a base 500 pursuader is $353. $149 is an incredible price. I'm thinking it could be the display model or a scratch-and-dent they are trying to sell off. If it functions Ok, I'd pick it up as a low cost defense gun.

Correcto-mundo........

I believe the model I'm referring to is the "Maverick," which, for $149, is still a decent price. The shotgun is displayed inside one of Wal-Mart's large cylindrical display cases and the price tag at the bottom looks pretty permanent. If I'm not mistaken, Mossberg sells an aftermarket pistol grip for this model, also.

Wal-Mart, here I come !! Whoopee.

The "Maverick" brand is Mossberg's 'value-price entry-level' shotgun. I bought a Maverick Mdl 88 in 1991 on a closeout for $106, been a good solid weapon. MOST of the Mossberg Model 500 parts, accesories and barrels will fit the Maverick.

Still, for 12 years later, $149 is a "Go jump on it NOW" price :D

When I bought my Maverick, I wasn't really in the market for a new shotty, but at the time, the price was too good to pass.
