My Lyman shotshell books 2-4 only have buckshot data in 16 gauge no slug data for 16ga.

Welcome to THR,
lots of great people here.

You might try contacting the maker of whatever powder you are using. Alliant, Hodgdon etc.
Lots of times they have info they don't post online.

Thanks for the above comments, but I have explored those areas. Can I maybe use load data for 1 oz. fine shot and feel safe? I plan to load round ball on top of a fiber wad

That is what I would do, and back it off some from that. If your barrel has any choke then either the ball or the barrel will give.

Just make sure the ball will drop through the barrel, .662 is probably a tight fit in a cylinder bore barrel and would probably swell or rupture a full choke.

I don't have it handy, but I'm pretty sure the 4th edition Lyman shotshell manual listed a few 12 ga. round ball loads. I imagine you could simply scale that info weight-for-weight (in terms of percentages). PM me if you're interested.

Thanks for all the responses, still serching for the safe load, would like to use this bullet for short range deer

Thanks Englishmn for the good advice, my .662 round ball went down my 16 ga. single shot perfectly, but not my 16 guage Ithica pump gun , you probably saved my Ithica!!!

I opened up a choke once with a slug so I'm kinda wary of it since. Nothing like learning the hard way.

Englisham, Thanks again for saving my Ithica!!!! Still looking for data to test this .662 round ball.
