I think I want to start a new project gun, a pump in .17 HM2. I haven't seen any on the market so I think I would have to re-barrel one of my existing rifles. I would like some opinions from the gunsmith types on the site if they think it would be possible to re-barrel a rem 572 or a win model 62 type clone (rossi or taurus).22LR pump to .17 HM2. Any thoughts? Also any estimates on what would something like this cost? The only project guns I have done before have been 10/22's.
thanks
Jim

Brownells sells barrel liners and deep-hole liner drills allowing the restoration of rifle barrels or caliber conversions. Drill, install liner, finish ream chamber, and you're done (supposedly). Hope this helps.

I relined a Kuehl Precision 22lr barrel for the AR15 to 17Mach2, so just about anything is possible. Non-autoloaders are obviously much easier as you don't have to mess with springs and masses.

I would think that it would be easier to set back a barrel on a 17hmr and recut the chamber shorter for the 17h2. Not alot easier, and maybe not easy but depending on the barrel configuration and extractor cuts it should work.
