What are some good semi auto .17 HMR rifles? It seems hard to find one. I have seen a few bolt actions. What is out there that I am missing?

I don't believe there are any more "production" 17 HMR semi's availble. At one point, Ruger was supposed to introduce one based on the 10/22 magnum, but that never came about. Remington chambered the 597 in it, but if I recall correctly, it was dropped because of its nasty habit of splitting cases. At one point, and possibly even currently, Volquartsen and Magnum Research had semi custom semi's availble, but there are no run of the mill semi-automatic production guns currently chambered in .17 hmr that I'm aware of....

I believe the reason why you don't see any around is because the .17HMR wasn't designed for semi-auto use. It doesn't feed properly. Some sort of neck issues. It's mainly a bolt gun round. If you look, I think it even says right on a box of shells "not for semi-auto use. Bolt actions only" I could be wrong & I'm too tired to get out of bed to look. I want to say that Ruger did in fact make that 10/22 in 17HMR but it didn't last. I seem to remember seeing one on a 10/22 forum with a nice thumbhole lammy stock but again I'm not positive. Just because you can't or won't find an auto in 17HMR don't count it out. It's fun to shoot! I've got a Savage cambered in it & I'd have to say that it's one of my more accurate rifles out to 150-200yrds

Ruger never produced a .17HMR 10/22 and the .22Mag version did not last long.

The Remington got canned because it would fire out of battery when dirty.

Volquartsen and Excel Arms still produce .17HMR automatics.
