.17 Remington Fireball

It is essentially a .221 necked down, with a change in the angle of the shoulder, to a .17 calibre. Remington just came out with rifles and ammo for it. They claim a 20 gr. bullet attains a velocity of 4,000, fps, without the accompaning barrel wear. In the Feb.,07 issue of Predator Xtreme, Ralph Lermayer has an interesting writeup on the round. I am trying to decide whether to buy a Cooper, Remington, or Encore Barrel in this calibre.:)

the 17 mk4 is fun, but doesn't kill stuff like one would expect or hope.

i have one, built on an old sako vixen action... have had it a couple years now, and have experimented w/ it fully...

I have a friend who has been shooting it for years, they do have a variety of bullet weights for it, I think remmington's will be the 25 grainers. My friend has had a Cooper rifle in this chambering for a long time now, and he handloads. he uses up to 30 or 32 grain bullets I believe, loaded down to about 3300 fps, and he cranks his 25's up to about 41 or 4200 fps.
