I have a Daisy CO2 pistol that I use for familiarization. I forget the exact Daisy model number, but it's a replica of the S&W 3rd gen pistols, like the 5906.

Aside from barrel length its almost identical to my 469, so I use it for practice.

Since I' moved back into town, I can't just shoot the metal BBs anywhere I please. Looking for a plastic bb substitute that I can shoot in my garage or basement. Looks like most Airsoft bbs are .22 caliber.

Does anyone have a source for .177 plastic bbs?

AirSoft BBs are .25 caliber (6mm.) I've never heard of plastic BB shot in .177 caliber. Perhaps a craft store that sells the pellets with which many stuffed animals and bean bags are filled would have a selection. Bring some steel/copper ones with you for comparison. I've found a few on my floors that have escaped from my daughter's beading kits; they look around that size.

most bb guns have a velocity of <500FPS, and given the low mass of a BB, that means a safe and effective backstop can be made from nothing more than an old cardboard box stuffed with Rags/ plastic bags/ packing foam/ ect.

hell, i shoot my ultra-magnum air rifle that throws a .25cal pellet at 750 FPS in my garage.........i dont see any reason why you couldnt safely shoot metal BBs

It doesn't take much to stop a bb gun.
I use the same targets for all airguns, from mild to not mild.
It's just a shallow box, plywood backing, 1x2 sides, filled with old towels.
Nothing has ever gotten through, and the only bounce back is if the bb hits the wooden edges.

I made a bb target trap for my Daisy 499. I take an old cardboard box, cut a hole out of one side that the target will go over. On the inside, I run a dowel across the top of the box, about halfway down. I then hang several old t-shirts over this dowel. I tack on the targets to the front, but have used clips before. The daisy isn't powerful at all and this set up works perfectly for me.

Make your own trap, use an old cardboard box, does not have to be thick....fill it with rubber mulch....then enjoy.

Nothing is going to bounce out, heck something as simple as a shoebox taped up will work for your application.

Another thing that works well for a BB trap is a backstop lined with 2" of plumbers clay. When the clay gets full of BB's scrape them out and smooth it out and start shooting again. The clay prevents them from bouncing out as much so your not chasing them around on the ground.

I like the "rag box" idea, an have used it a lot over the years. I place a strong magnet in the bottom of the box help corral the BBs.

I saw 4.5mm/.177 plastic BBs years ago, but they have disappeared. Pretty sure you can get them in Europe and Japan.

AirSoft BBs are .25 caliber (6mm.)

6mm is a .243 caliber

25 caliber is closer to 6.5mm

I'd just hang some carpet scraps in a box as a bullet trap and forget about plastic BB's

The OP may have a zoning issue rather than safety. In these parts there are some localities that ban metal projectiles. They consider it to be discharge of a firearm, but do not extend it to plastic projectiles or arrows.

When we were kids, my cousins had a basement bb range using a blanket hung on a wire line for backstop. These were typical daisy lever gns of the day, and you CO2 might launch them faster, but with the loos ehanging blanket, they would hit and drop to the floor, and we picked them up with a magnet.
