And lets not forget specialty ammo

Like CS
Stingers
Rubber Baton
Wood baton
Pepper bags

Yeah, all they shoot is buck...

I'd laugh at an 18.5" supermag barrel, but then I'd laugh at a supermag under pretty much any circumstance. On the other hand, it's not like 3" shells are rare or narrow in purpose. There's probably a 3" loading of pretty much every 2 3/4" load out there. Whether they're worth the extra recoil is a whole 'nother topic, but my 2 3/4" slugs kick more than the 3" 00 buck anyway... :)

Police generally aren't using their shotguns for long range work. So 18" barrells are a good choice. And they also generally only use them against armed people, so being able to load the most potent rounds is also a smart choice. Hence 18" shotguns that can take 3" buck or slugs. Plus the assortment of beanbags, pepper balls, Taser rounds, breaching rounds, etc. A 3" chamber is more versatile than a smaller one. They're not going duck hunting ;)

OK, laugh at mine. I havent ever ran any 3.5's through it, but it's nice to know that in a SHTF situation I can run anything in 12ga ammo made. And you are obviously not a south Texas Goose hunter or you would know the 3.5's true value to the sporting world.

Hence my qualification of the statement with the modifier pretty much. You're exempt from my ridicule. :neener:
On the other hand, as I've said before elsewhere, if your ammo stores are sold out of 2 3/4 and 3" shells, it's highly unlikely they'll have 3.5s of any variety, and especially not HD loads. JMHO...

Ohhhh... You were thinking in terms of buying ammo. My mistake, having been rooftop deep in the flood of '98, I was thinking in terms of salvaging ammo from the rubble. A handfull of 3.5 T-Shot is better than nothing if your gun will run 'em.:D

True that!

I just think most guys who buy 3.5" guns for non-hunting purposes do so due to "badass" factor - never considering that their gun is heavier, more complex, and much more limited in barrel choices as a result. 3.5s (purchased for the sake of being 3.5s) are the HD shotgun equivalent of a Desert Eagle to me. "Look, mine's the biggest!"

That can be true within some brands of guns but not all. The Remington 870 express Magnum and my 870 express Super-Mag weigh the same (in a given barrel length and furniture), have the same overall length, and the same length of pumpstroke. Not so in the Brownings, the 3.5" guns are bulkier than the 3".
