Does anybody besides Rainier make them? Can you get round nose FMJs at all?

I got my wife a Kimber Ultra Carry for her birthday. Since 230 gr JHPs have expansion problems from short barrels, I buy 185 gr JHPs for her carry loads. I want to be able to load my own for her to practice with, but the selection of 185 gr FMJs seems to be pretty limited.

I thought in order for a jacketed bullet to expand the velocity must reach 1100 fps? According to my manuals the 185 45 ACP can't safely be loaded to reach this velocity.

i talked to sierra's tech support today and was told that the sierra 185 JHP bullets are soft enough that they expand beautifully as low as 700fps.

if you have a heavy recoil spring, you may have problems cycling that low though

they also said something interesting which I am about to test for myself, which is that their JHP are much more accurate than their match FMJs. I don't have a rail gun to test with, but i'm anxious to give it a go anyways

My thanks to all those who pointed out the obvious to me-why am I worried about FMJs when I can load the JHPs? And testing to find out which work best is such a chore, too! :p

Now I just have to finish up my box of 230 gr bullets. Oh, the humanity! :D
