I have an 1851 pietta in .44 that I have had for a while. I am looking for a cartridge conversion. It is a steel frame. I cant find one. I went with the .44 because of the shiny grip straps :banghead:. I would like to get one in .45 colt to go with a puma 92 I have on order. Plus I have 300 rounds of .45 colt cow boy loads a friend gave me. Thanks for any help.

This is the gun.

conversion

I recently bought a R&D conversion cylinder for my Pietta 1860. Sent the first one back because it didn't function but the second one works fine. The .44 1851 and the 1860 have the same frame so the cylinder for the 1860 should work in your 1851, .44. Shoots 200 grain Magtec cowboy 45 loads pretty well. Not as accurate as powder and ball but decent. Only draw back to the R&D is that it only holds 5 rounds. No problem if your plinkin at the range but if you want to carry it afield you need to leave one chamber empty as there are no pins between nipple recesses. You could cover the firing pin with an empty .25 auto casing but that is probably sketchy safety wise. I bought mine at MidwayUSA,com for about $180 on sale but I think they are back up to $200 now. Good Luck
