I just got a Rem 1858 with the R&D in 45colt i was told to only shoot cowboy loads thru it? what FPS or CUP`s should ii be looking to load`em at?Thanks

Hi,

Got this information off the Midway website.
R & D Drop-In Conversion Cylinder 44 Caliber Uberti 1858 Suitable for use with "Cowboy Ammunition" only (750-850 fps).

For use with blackpowder cartridges with a maximum loading of 34 grains of FFG blackpowder or blackpowder equivalent.

BlindShooter

Even though you have converted the revolver with a new cylinder, the gun itself was proofed for use with black powder, and there is a warning stamped on the barrel to the effect to use "black powder only." The CAS smokeless loads probably won't get you into trouble, but if you want to shoot something hotter get a modern revolver that's made to use them.

I have been using 30gr FFg with filler and a 200gr lead FNRP bullet. These have been coming in at around 700f/s and are quite powerful enough for all CAS shoots.
I have been thinking of dropping the load down to 20gr + filler with the 200gr bullet to smooth out the shooting a little and speed up the stages.

thanks alot

Those loads sound cool to me I`m not interested in hot loads just plinking and i`m looking forward to loading some BP too, I know i need the brass dies but is the locking ring that needs to be brass or the whole thing?thanks
