1861 Enfields

I just took delivery of a Pedersoli 1861 Pattern Enfield musketoon. The fit and finish is almost perfect nice American walnut stock, trigger pull is excellent but the trigger is loose and rattles probably will do a shim job later, bluing is very good and the lock is case colored.

It would be nice if they would put the manufactures "black powder only" markings on the bottom of the barrel, as it does have the period correct markings.

Now for the negative, the rear sights are definitely for young eyes, and the quality sucks, very light material for the ladder it must be from a tin can but blued, the small spring that holds tension on the sight rail is held with screw the size of an eyeglass screw and has lots of play, will probably move under recoil.

The ram rod is useless, seems they used part of a 2 piece rod, there are threads
(5MM X .80) on the opposite end from the jag.

The musket nipple is 8 MM X 1.25 thread with a 1/4 inch square shoulder.
Just got my musket caps to day ordered from Blockade Runner.

Will lube some of the minies and shoot a few tomorrow, and be back with a report.

Awesome! I'm think an Enfield too. Pedersoli makes good guns, I'll get either that or a Springfield. I think most will tell you Davide Pedersoli makes some of the best BP guns around.

Got all head up and had to take the new Enfield out in the back yard and touch off a couple shots just to see how she bucks.

Using a 65 gr. FFg charge and 500 gr. Lyman old style minie with beeswax Crisco canola lube and RWS musket cap, it shoots about 8" high at 25 yrds. but dead on windage wise, will be interesting to see how she shoots at 100.

The trigger I reported about on the previous post was quickly done and the actual story is
it breaks clean and with out any grit but the take up is long.

So it goes, that's all for now.

Just purchased about a dozen CW repro rifles, rifle-muskets, carbines, and revolvers today. The PO was in the N-SSA from 1995 to 2003. All are in excellent shooting condition for a N-SSA competitor or folks interested in non-Italian repros. About a dozen minie-ball or round ball moulds to match each firearm.

Need to start photographing them to get them ready for sale. Among the "prizes" are a Parker-Hale 2-band , a Parker-Hale Musketoon, and an early repro Fayetteville Rifle, made here in Fayetteville, NC in the late '80's-early '90's.

The interesting thing about the Fayetteville rifle is the lock. The lock, excluding the hammer, is an original 1861 Springfield lock, which was resurfaced to allow "1863", "CSA" & "Fayetteville" to be etched into the lock plate, then blued. Neat rifle. Ironically, it was made about 4 miles from the original Fayetteville Arsenal grounds.

The "jewel" is a repro model 1855 rifle-musket, completely US made, in Harpers Ferry, WV by Mr Zimmerman. It is one of only five made. The other four were allegedly made under contract for the Harpers Ferry National Historical Park. Beautiful rifle-musket complete with working Maynard tape primer system lock in "showroom condition".
