I am considering buying a Uberti/Cimmeron 1872 Open Top revolver. Has anyone here every owned or shot one. Just looking for some comments/experiences. Thanks in advance.

Yes, I own an 1871 Open Top from Uberti. It's chambered for .38spl and I've owned it for about a year and have had no problems with it. As it is an older design it has the same issues that led to a "newer" design :) For me it has fired reliably, but after about 30 rds the cylinder gets a little stiff/gummed up and doesn't want to rotate as smoothly. I have found some good quality grease on the pin holding the cylinder takes care of it.

It's a great looking gun, which actually got me interested in revolvers to start with. I have since purchased 2 Ruger Single actions and like them a little better, but I certainly like the looks of my open top and will most likely never get rid of it.

Hope that helped

I have an ASM copy of the Richards conversion chambered for the 44 Colt. Mine is built with the .430 barrel and uses .430 bullets (unlike the original heeled .45 caliber bullets).

I have had it for about 5 years and enjoy it. I had to rebuild it, internally, as ASM used soft parts so things got out of aligment rather quickly. I'd buy another if I could find one, so that should tell you how I feel about them. I realize it is not the 1872 Open Top to which you refer but it is the forerunner and a decent revolver.

What cartridge are you considering?

One of the members of my fast draw club has a 7 1/2" version and loves it.

I shoot a Beretta stampede, and tried it and found with some tuning, I would be able to shoot some fast times!

I think it is well worth it!
