image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg ] image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg This past Saturday I was fortunate enough to find and purchase a firearm I have wanted all my life; an original Springfield cavalry carbine. This one is a model 1884, with a stock cartouche date of 1887. It also has New Jersey National Guard stamps on the stock in front of the saddle bar/ring assembly and on the barrel in front of the receiver on the left side of the barrel. One marking I found unusual was located on the comb of the stock directly in front of the buttplate. It is a small cross inside of a circle. The same cross/circle stamp is found directly in front of the buttplate on the heel of the stock.

I would really appreciate any information on these cross/circle stock stampings that you could give me. Many thanks in advance.
