Does anyone know how many sections and rod e nd pieces there are in the kit that goes into the rear of the stock? Also, were the cases that hold them brass or chrome plated?

I'm pretty sure that I'm missing a couple sections, I have the piece that screws into the case/handle and then one more section. There's also a piece that's a half section with female ends on both ends. Have the patch holder, jag and mop with a small rod section to put the mop on the rod. With only two rod sections, there's no way it's long enough to clean the barrel. I'm thinking that I'll need at least 3 more section to be able to use it.

So, anyone know how many sections there's supposed to be in the kit and where I can find them?

No rods at all in the buttstock kit. It was a tube that had an oil bottle on one end and the other had a pull through and a brush

yeppers.

later ones were clearish plastic with yellow end caps. One end was an oil bottle with the dip stick and the other was a container for the pull thong and brush and a couple of patches.

Wish I had kept all I had. When the US Army decided it was too much trouble to let highschools have M-14s and M-1s that worked they brought 1903 A3 rifles to the schools and then murdered them with welds. After I got out of the service the first time this was in progress at my old school when I went to visit my old JROTC instructors and as the Army folks were just tossing the cleaning kits in the garbage I walked out with a double hand full. I looked for one of the steel /nickeled ones but all those WWII rifles had plastic ones, most never used. Made neat gifts.

There was a barracks rod in use when the 03 was in service, a one piece rod with a sort of T handle that folks shared.

The little rod sections were for the M-1 and M-14. The .30 cal rods do not work in the M-16 series and even the tips and brushes do not inter change.

The .22 training and match rifles in Highschool had barracks rods, but we often as not used commercial cleaning gear during annual cleaning of the match rifles. Thinking about shoving one piece steel rods of a bent nature down the muzzle of a Remington 513T makes me shiver with disgust these days, but we did not know better then and since our M-1s cleaned from the muzzle.......

Interestingly Winchester 1873s had screw jointed rods in the butt stock under a port in the butt plate.

Highpower, mine looks different than yours. It's chrome/nickel plated, one end has a cap to hold everything on the inside. The other end has a threaded hole to screw the sections in and act as a handle. The rod sections are about 4" long.

Yeah, I don't think mine is for a 1903. It's a really snug fit and I don't think the cap will fit in.
