1903 Springfield, R.I.A. manufacture, serial # 1...in my hands!!!

My great Grandfather fought for the Confederacy. I am the first person in my family line to have served in the United States Army. That fact is the one thing in my life that I am the most proud of.

Truth be told I had ancestors on both sides of the lines, but more so from the south. To me personally neither makes a hill of beans today, but the truth is a LOT of good men perished on both sides. It is simply a shame that history cannot remain history and has to keep being dredged back up by folks who had no idea of the real implications of either side. That is one fine sword, and the history behind it is fascinating.

Thank you for sharing...
I too had ancestors on both sides but what you wrote is your personal opinion and not based on just history. A lot good people perish in all types of wars on all sides but history always shows who was clearly in the wrong. it isn’t random people just dredging up personal opinions why and how wars began.

The civil war always has the ability for people to focus on their personal opinions rather than the history because we put so much pride in what part of the nation we hail from. It is important to separate emotions and personal feelings from the history.

Wow. I would be speechless just staring at it in a glass case. Can't imagine the honor of actually holding it in my hands. I just can't believe how bad I would have felt if I were the one who had to grind off the end of that firing pin. Thanks for the story and pix.
