I just picked up a sporterized 1903 for about $50. The barrel was shortened and it was drilled for scope mounts, so there's no point in restoring it and I thought it might be fun to see what I can do to make it a precision rifle, since other than those two things it's in pretty good shape.

Anyway, it's already drilled for Weaver 54 and 55 bases. I was wondering if there's any sort of flip-off mount attachment available so that you can still load with a stripper clip instead of one-by-one? Anybody know of anything along those lines? Not a big deal, and I have to wonder what it would do to your zero unless it was truly rock-solid when it locked back into place, but if one's available I might try it out.

pachmayer & williams made a hinged mount & ring system that pivots to the side. they have been out of production for a long time but you shouldn't have a problem finding one on gunbroker or ebay.
