I just got a parkerized Springfield 1911 with a stainless barrel bushing and I want a parkerized barrel bushing. Can I use pretty much any barrel bushing to replace this one or does it have to be a certain type, made by Springfield, etc.?

usually isnt a problem but as you will see in the 1911 world drop in parts dont always work out to be drop in some fitting normally is required but you shouldn't be to out of place with barrel bushings although sometimes you do need to get a model specific bushing

Barrel bushings should fit within .001 of the slide and .001 to the barrel. Before you get a new bushing you need to know exactly what size you need. You measure the inside of the slide and the outside of the barrel. Evolution Gun Works will make you a custom bushing for about $25. Even ones that are custom ordered to spec may require some fitting. If you get a Parkerized one you may ruin the finish (on the inside where it doesn't show) by sanding it down to fit. You also need to be very careful to make sure you keep the sanding even so you don't make it oval shaped.

If you are only interested in the finish and not in improving the accuracy of the gun, take your bushing to smith and have him refinish it when Parkerizes another gun. It will also probably be cheaper than buying a new bushing.

No can do. Stainless steel cannot be parkerized. Most aftermarket carbon steel bushings are matte blue, which might be a good match for your pistol (most USGI bushings were blue, despite being fitted to parkerized pistols). It's "luck of the draw" with drop-in parts - you might get one that's a good fit, you might not. If you have a trusted gunsmith nearby, you'll likely be better off accuracy-wise by having a new bushing fitted to the gun. That, or the Springfield Armory custom shop will gladly satisfy your wishes.
