1911 barrel question

I have been arguing with a friend of mine about Clark cut ramped barrels vs. nowlin cut ramped barrels. Let me start by saying he has Para Ord. .40 double stack ( not sure which one) but it has the clark cut in the frame. He wants to make it a 10mm with a new barrel and says he is going to use a nowlin cut barrel because he has access to one. I told him it would not work because the frame would not stop the barrel. He would be relying on the link to stop it. Which to my understanding is not a good thing.


I thought I would run it by the crew here. So what do you guys think?

You are very correct. You can't use a W/N barrel in a C/P frame, nor can you convert a C/P frame to W/N (though I believe the reverse is possible). I do not know if it is possible to convert a W/N barrel to C/P, but that would be pretty silly anyway since it would be easier to just buy a C/P barrel in the first place.

I won't say it is impossible to do, especially on a steel frame. You probably could weld a chunk of metal into the frame and completely recut it for a Nowlin barrel, but it would be cost prohibitive and you might royally screw up the heat treatment of the frame in the process. Far more cost effective to buy a 10mm with the Para/Clark design ramp or get one in 40 S&W and ream the chamber to 10mm.
