So a friend of mine needed to sell a gun for an unexpected expense, a RIA gi 1911 in 9mm.

I get it for next to nothing with a factory mag and a mec. mag. Its dirty and won't fire 3 rounds without ftf. I strip it, clean it, and head back out to the yard, and run solid mags with no ftf, probably 10 mags. Slide never locks open though...
No big deal, I'll figure it out.

The problem is I know eventually my beloved, ultimately reliable, yet somewhat inaccurate 92fs doesn't have much carry time left

Now dont get me wrong, I've put thousands of rounds through the 92, and I'm very proficient 10 yards and in. But I can do things at 25 yards with the 1911 that i will never be able to replicate with my Italian mistress.

I'm planning on buying one more gun this year and its prolly gonna be a 1911 platform in 38 super.

My heart breaks for my poor Beretta...

Why not buy another Beretta? Can it be refurbished? Would it be worth it to you to have it refurbished?...I guess that’s the big question.

Funny, when one of my guns isn’t that accurate I happily do what I can to make it the best it can be, and then send it on its way.

There are far too many accurate guns out there to waste too much time placing emotional attachment on an inaccurate one.

I'm planning on getting a fresh parts kit, an inox contrast set up and passing it down to one of my sons.

It just seems that the accuracy of the 1911 platforms outweighs my love of the Berettas controls and ease of takedown. I'm sure capacity is well covered in 10mm as well.

get what you want and keep the old favorite for sentimental value and as a good backup

Maybe you settled for an inaccurate gun for too long. But what do I know...

Buy a decent barrel for your Beretta and see if it helps:

No, there's no doubt...I definitely did. Almost sold it twice. But the everytime you pull the trigger it goes bang and the artistic value of the model have kept me invested.

Thank you for the link, that's exactly what I want for its upgrade.

Its gonna be a picnic gun til I do pass it down!

If so you will now have the ability to convert your .38 Super into a 9mm. with just a barrel assembly and dedicated 9mm. magazines. I have done it with most of my .38 Supers and it works great and saves me money on practice ammo.

I understand how you feel. But she was faithful and true. You owe her a clean, amicable sepration.
I know it's hard, if you truly loved her, but tell her the truth.
Make it clear. And don't back up.
It's even harder when there are children, like an Eighty One or a TomCat.:(

But, having done the same, I can't say I blame you!

A Nineteen Eleven is caring, experienced and adapts to YOUR needs. She's real giver and a soft shooter. From Rowland down to Browning Auto, she can take what ever pleases.
And do it for a long time! She'll take a good whipping without complaining of a cracked lug.
And if you do happen to get spent, she's worthy enough to bludgeon an adversary to death.

And come out looking like a right proper lady.

What's not to like?:D

I had two beretta 92's that I sold off. One was an m9, the other an italian made one. Beautiful pistols and reliable, but never fell in love with them beyond aesthetics.

I just got back from the range with my new Dan Wesson valor 9mm Gov't size and I can say when a 9mm 1911 goes right it is amazing. The crux with them is usually the magazine. Get a wilson 9mm mag and see what happens.
