I read that there some just a few differences between Argentine Factory 1911, and the Govt Colt 1911 - including grips. This must be true becasue I bought a pair of rubber grips - supposed to fit all 1911's. Well not mine.

Can the Argentine 1911 45 acp experts out there help me?

Thanks,

- W

Bought on ebay from coolgunstuff. That is the only 1911 I have. Gun says. "Pistola Automatica C11.25" It may be the Sistema 1911 - I'll have to research more.

1911 forum was my next stop.

Hmm.. I've never heard of CoolGunStuff. I'd honestly suggest trying out Hogue if you want quality rubber grips. I believe they make fingerless rubber grips for your pistol.

It is a possibility that the rubber grips you bought were made to spec. Check Hogue or Pachmyr out.

Sorry Woddy ... :uhoh:

I have good news and bad. First the bad ... Well O.K., it really isn't that bad. The Ballester-Molina isn't a true 1911 pistol although it uses the same barrel & bushing, and magazine. It the truth were known the manual safety system is better then the one Browning came up with. It was made in Argentina, and it is a good gun in its own right. If you post the serial number I might be able to tell you more.

Unfortunately, it doesn't use the same grips as the Colt style guns, but here's the good news. The correct grips are available, and I'll come back with a link shortly.

Edited to add link: www.cdnninvestments.com

They cost about $15.00, but look out for a minimum $10.00 shipping/handling charge. You might want too do a little additional shopping. :D

Ballester Molina stock panels

They list some for sale on the JLD/ Cruffler board - - $12.50.

Scroll down to ACCESSORIES. If you get to submachine gun magazines, go back just a little bit.

And, above that, there are some historical sketches about the various South Americn military and police handguns. Worth reading.

Best,
Johnny

bm

the bm also has a star-style trigger link-up. it does take 1911 mags. there is a list of interchangeable parts between the two, but i forget where-it could be found w/ a good query. it's supposed to be a great gun & i'd love to have one-already have a sistema which is one of, if not the, most accurate handguns i possess. the sistema is totally interchangerable w/ the colt as it was built on colt machinery, under colt license & supervision. the bm has different slide markings & no grip safety. the sisterma is built of a higher quality s(swedish) steel than the colts of the period, though there are rumors of the steel being scavenged from a sunk naval vessel, which is untrue.

On rt side above trigger "28902" on backstrap "56770".

I lucked out, on gunboards found a local guy with many wood stles for the BM. I choose "Devil Wood" - a redish wood. Wow the BM looks 10 times better with those red grips.

Also, did some research - Geez those true blood 1911 bring big bucks! $400 and up, and up from there. Who makes the best 1911 clone? Stars any good?

1911 clone

the best imho is the sistema colt modelo 1927. the best for the buck, i'm hoping, is the rock island. i've got one laid away ar $275. it's mil-spec & is made of 4140 steel on computerized numerical control machinery w/ superplus++hard chrome lined barrels. 5-5.5 lb. trigger pull. they come w/ 2 8 rd finger rest mags.
