I have a custom built 1911 I use for 45 ACP and 400 Cor-Bon (155gr). It fires the 45 ACP without any problem what so ever. I was experiencing consistent feed problems using the recommended 23# spring and went to a 20# which lessened jams considerably but not completely. I polished the barrel ramp area and swapped out mags but the problem still raises it's ugly head periodically. I even tried experimenting with longer OALs' but that made no difference. I'm hesitant to go to an even lighter spring since 23 is recommended.
Anyone else experience this problem?

The nose. Thats why I went to a longer OAL. The followers are standard colt single stack mags. I have a McCormick and a Nighthawk mag I haven't tried yet but with the improvment after changing the spring and since the mags work well with 45s' I figured I 'm on the right track Especially since the barrel and spring are the only parts changed for the conversion.

Yep. Look at the mag first. I run a regular recoil spring for .400 Corbon. Unless you are running it really hot, that's all you need with 155's.

what pound recoil spring are you using and what length gun i just got a 400 corbon barrel for my colt officers and i'm running a wilson 24# with the fl recoil rod?

I have a 38/45 Clerke M1911 and have feeding problems as well with this bottle neck cartridge.

I find it operates better if I only load 5 rounds. It feeds better if I have a humped follower in the magazine. I have one magazine, a Chip McCormick I think, that has a follower that cannot tip in the magazine and it works the best.

Same results with new or old magazines.

I run a pretty light recoil spring, I forget off hand but it is less than 16 pounds.

With a full magazine, I find the round dives into the feed ramp as it passes over the bottleneck area of the next cartridge.

I load 130 FMJs.

Not much help but I am interested in seeing what folks suggest.
