45 acp, 40sw, 9mm, 38 super. All avalaible in a rehashed 1911 frame. I like the style and looks of the basic 1911 frame and want to know.

what of these calibers is easiest recoiling in this frame?

Believe it or not, this isn't an easy question to answer.

Different calibers have different recoil impulses, thus felt recoil is different for each shooter.

If I was ranking, it would be (from lightest to heaviest):

9mm
.38 Super
.45 ACP
.40 S&W

Without giving specific loads, there is no meaningful answer. I would agree with Sistema that considering average factory loads, 9mm is the mildest and .40 has the most snap. But gentle factory target loads can be had for all of these except possibly 38 Super which is really a handloading proposition anyway.

Wow, this can be a very subjective reply...plus, as mentioned, the recoil characteristics are very different in the calibers you mention...
In this case, I think I'll go w/ 45 acp as being the most mild

I've got 2 LW Commanders. One in .45 ACP, the other shoots the .355 family of calibers. (9x23, 38 Super, and 9mm).

For me, the 9mm is the lowest recoiling round. The 38 Super doesn't really feel much different.
