1911 grip bushings -dumb question?

Probably a real low tech question, I feel kinda dumb but...
I picked up a pair of "slim" micarta panels awhile back and recently sat down to put them on.
4 screws- 2 minutes. What could be simpler than that?
The bushings are too high and the grip panels won't seat flat to the frame. I checked Brownell's and they only show one kind of 1911 bushing. I checked my colt series 70 combat commander and my Springfield Armory and same situation.
What now?

As you already guessed, you need slim bushings.
Brownells does have slim bushings. Try the search and key in 1911 grip bushings.

There are thin bushings available for the thin grips. I got mine from Chip McCormick. Ajax custom grips sells them too.

It is also possible to file off the bushings & screws until the grips will tighten down.

But you will lose the screw-slots on the bushings unless you re-cut them with a screw-slot file or Dremel cut-off wheel.
