Hey guys. I recently bought a 1911 (Springer 1911 GI) and while I don't plan on replacing my PT140 MilPro as my main carry, I would like to carry it every once in a while. I have been all over the net looking at OWB high and tight holsters and am undecided.
What better place to ask people about this than right here on THR. I am looking for opinions and options from those who carry their 45 this way. I would like it to ride high and tight to the body.
As you know, a holster has a way of finding its way to the box with 20 other holsters and I am trying to avoid spending money on a holster that will be in the holster cemetary in a month.
Thanks guys!

Don Hume "Open Top" model.

My CombatMaster rides about as high on the DH as my first 1911 did on the Sparks 60TK I once had.

The DH Open Top can be found on the net for about 42 bucks.

Here's a few photos of the Don Hume...

Thanks guys for the help. I have a couple Hume's and they have all been great for the money. I have often wondered how much better the Sparks would be than a Galco or Hume. I think if I was going to get a IWB the Sparks would win out.
Have any of you heard of Southern holsters? Had any experience with them?

I'll second the Tucker HF1. been carrying a TRP in on for a bout a year and a half, pulls the gun in tight, distributes the weight good, all day comfort for me. get a good belt for the heavier pieces. YMMV

High Ride Holster

Milt Sparks Roadrunners turn up surprisingly frequently on ebay; the TK is an evolved version of it, but I like the old style myself; They will still make one for you custom.

Bulman Leather also makes a high ride ($85) with a sweat flap like the DeSantis Speed Scabbard (one of my favorites).

I really like the old Bianchi Askins Avenger.

Cheers, TF

Hi Bob,

Some may consider it old school, but I like Galco's Fletch hi-ride holster. It seems to do fine with my Springer '11.

03Shadowbob,

If you want to try one before you buy, just let me know. Send me an email with the options for the holster you want. I'll make (still takes up to 4 weeks) and send the holster to you and you can try it for a week. If you like it, pay me for it. If you don't, return it and your holster box has room for someone else's holster ;)

I've carried 1911's or variants for years, but it completely depends on your dimensions, and preferences. My latest one is the Sig GSR in a Kirkpatrick Leather rig. the holster and mag pouch was $80 to my door. I've used Mike's products before, and have only positive things to say about them.

I'm rather fond of my Galco Fletch high ride. it distributes weight evenly and is comfortable to wear for long periods of time.

Wow, thanks everyone. I never expected this thread to have this many responses. I am going to look into all of these more. After looking at that Merrnickle PS6, I am impressed.
Tom, thanks for the offer. It says something about you and your products. I'll keep that in mind.

High Ride

The holster in JayB's pic is an Avenger. The style is much copied; be aware that Galcos' copy is a straight drop without the cant.

I am also impressed with the PS6(?) saved the file.
Cheers, TF

The holster in Jayb's pic is NOT an Avenger. and to be honest, the original holster of this type was most likely the Milt Sparks 55BN; the BN being Bruce Nelson, who also designed the Summer Special made famous by Sparks.

sheesh.....
