I have a 4" 1911 (singe stack) that came with two 7 round magazines. While at the range with a friend who has a 5" 1911 with 8 round mags, I tried one of his mags in my pistol and the mag set flush to the bottom of the grip - not sticking out like a 10 round mag that I have. After observing this, I tried my 7 round mags in his pistol and, sure enough, everything worked great then too. Factory roundball fed properly regardless the magazine - pistol permutation.

Does this mean that I can just start buying 8 round mags for my pistol and they will all set flush with the bottom of the grips and work fine?

Thanks!

Pretty much, yes
I like Wilson's best but they are pricey
Mec-Gars work great as well for a more reasonable price
Try them all out

I use the plain 8rd kimber mags. They work great, I have yet to have a problem with any of mine with over 900 rds through them. Check them out if your lookin to save a couple bucks.

Wilson 47Ds. Why? Because they are the most consistent 1911 magazine out there, working well in most pistols. I only have one 1911 for now but I am an optimist and maybe some day I'll have another.

I used to use the Wilson 47Ds, until I experienced first hand some of the problems associated with the "lack of dimple" and weak mag spring that 1911Tuner has expounded upon in the past.

For the moment I'm using 7 round metalforms with Wolff spring upgrade. I say for the moment because I'm waiting for the new Checkmate mags with hybrid lips that are supposed to be the bee's knees.

I've used the McCormic 8 rounders at Gunsite, Practical Pistol, and daily carry...
And loaned them to a guy who ABUSED them at a Tactical Response Fighting pistol class.

They work great.

(I do recomend the SS ones.)

Why not have one more?
