I've shot almost every semi-auto there is, but for some reason my shooting hand wants to stay married up with Ol' Slabsides. I guess that after sixty-some years it's just a habit I can't break.
I'm still happy with a worked-over LW Commander, and my Heinz 57 full-size. Series 70 frame and I disremember what kind of slide; early model. MMC sights. I worked over the innards a bit. Hardly any takeup, no overtravel, crisp and clean let-off.
The nice thing about the 1911 is that they're so easy to work on. That's why I used to hunt for old rusty clunkers to rebuild as "just shooters"...
