I've shot almost every semi-auto there is, but for some reason my shooting hand wants to stay married up with Ol' Slabsides. I guess that after sixty-some years it's just a habit I can't break. :)

I'm still happy with a worked-over LW Commander, and my Heinz 57 full-size. Series 70 frame and I disremember what kind of slide; early model. MMC sights. I worked over the innards a bit. Hardly any takeup, no overtravel, crisp and clean let-off.

The nice thing about the 1911 is that they're so easy to work on. That's why I used to hunt for old rusty clunkers to rebuild as "just shooters"...

I've had very good service from two relatively low cost Chip McCormick models:

Power Mag

Shooting Star

Both of these have been flawless in my 3 Colt 1911s.

What holster do y'all recommend?
It depends upon how you plan to carry.

I HATE untucked shirts and never wear extra cover garments unless it's cold out. That means that I carry my Norinco M1911 in a Don Hume 715M IWB. It's not designed to be "tuckable", but is reasonably so.

I'm working on a design for a tuckable IWB holster. Assuming that it works out, I'll switch to that for everything but my J-frame Smith.

When you get the holster designed could you send me some pictures of it? I've been looking for a good tuckable one that feels good and haven't found one that I like. Sounds cool! :D
