Until very recently I owned at least one of every just about type of .45 that had been produced in the last 10 yrs. I had 47 non-1911 style .45 acps. Some were very good guns (USP, Glock 21, etc.), some were absolute crap (AMT Backup, Patriot Arms, etc.), some were great deals for the money (EAA Witness, Taurus 945, etc.). One day I looked around and realized that the only guns that I really liked and shot a lot were my 1911s. I have spent the last few months getting rid of all of my non-1911s and replacing them with various Colts and Colt clones. I could not be happier. I can make any 1911 exactly how I want it by simply changing out a few parts. I enjoy tinkering with guns and I have some basic gunsmithing skills, thus the 1911 is a lot of fun for me to customize. That being said, most of today's 1911s are ready to go right out of the box. I simply do not think that you can do better than a 1911 and things have finally advanced enough that even the 3" models are reliable.

I was once on the "one of everything" trail, then I consolidated to a few calibers & a few designs. I'm only own what I shoot regularly & like them all. The guns that don't fit into that list have been sold off to pay for more that will

I voted as "I own many types but prefer 1911s." which is the closest to the truth. However I do limit the "many types" to a small subset. The non-1911 pattern handguns are 2 Sigs and 2 wheelguns and a BHP. (If you don't include .22LRs).

If I didn't "prefer" an autoloader, I wouldn't own it. I like all of mine equally, though each is better than the others depending on the task at hand.

interesting, I'm the only one who has voted for option two so far...

j/k. :D

1911s rule. I own many autoloaders of every quality brand, and even some of those peculiar black plastic Euroguns ... but ... in my heart, I care only for my 1911s ...

None of the options quite worked for me.

I have just recently acquired my first 1911 (SW1911) after owning several wheelguns and a SIG. It's as reliable as the SIG, as accurate and I shoot the 1911 better.

I still love the wheelguns but among the autos the 1911 suits me better than anything else.

I've recently

started selling off all my autoloaders that are not 1911's. Simply put J.M.B. designed the perfect handgun, period (IMNSHO). The older I get the more sure I am of this.

Of course- you just have to have a few wheelguns.
