Hey everyone
I have an old 1911 schmidt rubin rifle that was sporterized and rechambered to .308 winchester. Id like to rechamber it for the original GP 11 chambering and replace some of its missing parts. However I have looked at the major parts distributors and I can't find anything for parts. It had been a rifle at one time but has been shortened to about as long as the Karbiner. So I was thinking about turning into something like one of those but I don't know if I can even get enough parts to make it work again.

anyone have any ideas?

Changing it back is going to be much more expensive and difficult than finding a nice example of a 1911.

Its my understanding that a lot of 1911 and 96/11 rifles were converted to .308 in Switzerland for hunting purposes.

You may end up spending more to restore it in time and parts than you would to get another one.

As is assuming the work was done right you have a great rifle in an easy to find caliber that already has been devalued as a collector rifle, why not keep it as a shooter and save for another 1911 Schmidt Rubin that is all original?

I had one of these also years ago until one of my friends offered me more for it in a trade than I could possibly resist.

I had made mine into one of the neatest fastest firing bolt action scout rifles one could ever imagine.
I liked it better than a K-31 and had it not been already converted to .308 and bubba modified on the wood I would have tried to restore it but in figuring out parts availability and costs it simply was not worth it to me in the long run so it became the ultimate in a straight pull bolt action scout rifle.:D

It's a worthy goal. Actually re-reaming it back to 7.5 will probably be easier than cutting it to .308 because the 7.5 has slighly greater dimensions. Which parts in particular are you looking to find. I know of a source for replacement front sights. I'd sugguest going to the forum at the swiss rifles page and asking for particular parts. You may be surprised. If you can order from Switzerland itself you should be able to find anything you need.
