...Alright. If I was in the market for a Series 70 1911 with majority forged internals (as well as frame and slide) for under $1000, what options are out there for me? I know I can take a Colt WW repro and work it up from there, but are there any other options that meet those criteria laying around?

I'm thinking "initially", not "after I'm through with it". And yes, though I would upgrade the repro Colt if I got one, I would be fine with it being "stock" until I have the money to do so.

Purpose: Anything a 1911 can be used for, though realistically *not* going to be a carry piece, at least not a primary. Not for a couple years, anyhow.

I would go with the Colt as well. Around here you can get the series 70 reproductions for about $850 with the WW1 going for about $1000.
Colt is always the right answer!

Colt...because if one that is defective does get through, they make the needed repairs the first trip back.

Just my personal experience.

Just to clear things up a little. The Rock Islands are made in the Philippines. From what I've read the spartan uses RIA frames and Slides with STI internals.

Considering your criteria, most of the responses will be either Colt or Dan Wesson. Both are great manufacturers. Do a couple thorough searches on both makes and models. I had the same criteria a few months ago and went with the Dan Wesson commander bobtail.

The "70 Series" guns do not simply describe a 1911 with out the firing pin block. 70 Series denotes a specific run of Colt Government Models with standard 1911 internals and "Accuraizer" barrels with the collet bushing. The only true 70 Series guns are Colts.
