Well I looked at a couple more 1911's today. The first was a Kimber Ten II. Ick! That was the worst feeling 1911 I have held yet. The grips were HUGE and very very uncomfortable. Then I looked at a used stainless Springfield. I am guessing it was one of the loaded models and had Hogue grips installed. I like that one a lot. It was $599. But then I began thinking. There didn't seem to be a lot of differences between the Mil Spec and the used Springer, and the new mil spec had a life time warranty. Too many choices I think.

For the money, I think you would have a tough time doing better than this.........

Guns America S&W 1911 .45 F/S = $620.00 + shipping costs.

Ps This is not a recommendation as to the seller, I don't know them.

See my thread on the Armscor 45. Springfield "loaded" features for $330. 100% out of the box. Compares very favorabley with my Kimbers in terms of trigger and accuracy, Kimber is better but not close to 2X better!

IMHO this is the one to get if you want to get your feet wet before spending big bucks on a brand name semi-custom gun like Wilson or Baer. Too early to tell how well it will hold up, but I've over 4000 rounds thru an Armscor made Charles Daly and it still looks pretty pristine -- I've a thread with pictures of it too.

Get a Colt if you think you want to resell it to buy the Bear or other high end gun.
Around here at least, Colts have the best resale value amoung mass produced factoru guns.
