So we had my wifes 1911 out at the last THR shoot here in MD. For some reason though it's started to shoot low. Instead of putting the sights at the bottom or in the middle of what you want to hit it's started to be put your sights at the very top of what you want to hit or a tad higher. This is a Springfield MILSPEC with their stock three dot fixed sights. I'm kinda at a loss right now because neither front nor rear sight seem loose. Would it maybe be a worn bushing or link?

Could it be an ammo related problem? Did you change what you usually shoot, or was it real cold out while you were shooting and was the ammo real cold?

anapex- you didn't say how the pistol shot before. Have you shot it in the past? I'm only asking because S.A. 1911's have a habit of shooting low. I put an adjustable rear sight on my Loaded, and I love it.

Things that spring to my mind.
Changed ammo.
Tightened grip on the gun.
Bushing severly worn or broken.
Barrel link severly worn or broken.
Barrel link pin or pin hole severly worn.

The ammo was my standard winchester white box. It was at an indoor range so cold wasn't a problem. Before it was my wifes the gun was mine, so I've shot it extensively. You used to have to split the center of a bullseye to hit the X ring, now it's touch the top of the black to hit the X. Grip hasn't changed and it shoots that way for both my wife and I. I'll check the bushing and link tonight.

It might be the ammo. I have an STI Trojan 5.0 in 9x19 with fixed sights in which I usually shoot WWB 115-grain. Not too long ago, I went to Wal-Mart for some more ammo and tossed it in my range bag along with the older ammo. During the next session, I finished the last box of older ammo and loaded the magazine with some of the new ammo. All of a sudden, I was entirely missing the target at twenty-five yards. I moved the target to fifty feet and found I was now shooting six inches low at fifty feet. Nice groups, just not where they should have been.

Went and got some Federal 115-grain. It shot much closer to the POA.

My dad has that sma problem, it was putting all the shots into the dirt. He sent it back to springfield ans they put I pretty nice target site on it for free so it would shoot where it should.
