I have a PI 9134L 1911 Springfield that has a pinned front sight blade. The blade is dovetailed in a rather wide dovetail. I want to replace it with a fiber optic. Does anyone know of any company that sells Fiber optic sights for Springfields?

Thanks,

John,

Springfield's front sights use the Novak standard (.330" x .075" with 65 degree shoulder, ) dovetail, so look at Novak sights, or other makes in this size (like EGW for a fiber optic) in Brownells. The rolled pin at the front of the sight, can be driven straight down, thru the slide for removal.

Why would a dovetail sight be pinned thru the slide? Seems like you would want to drift a dovetail, at least I would if it required it.

Yeah, what's the point of having the dovetail if you're going to pin it?

I've owned many Springfields and don't mean this as a malicious slight against them but... they probably had front sights falling off due to sloppy cuts. Pinning will fix that in a heart beat. ;)

Novak front sights are all pinned in their dovetail. Wayne Novak explained to me that this was not necessarily to retain the sight (though it helps) but to ensure that the sight was always centered.

Another reason to stick with the Colt Browning original staked sight. Dumb me, I thought the point was to allow drift adjustment. Another "cool" feature; like a FLGR.

The horror! the horror!
