1911 sights

I recently purchased a Colt 1911 (Gold Cup) and was wondering what options there are for sights. I have heard of Tritium (sp?) sights and I am interested in those, but I am open to all suggestions of different types of sights. Thanks.

Colt Gold Cups have different cuts in the slide for the factory sights than do the regular Government Models. Owing to this, you must be careful to choose sights specifically suited for the Gold Cup.

There are several manufacturers who make sights for Gold Cups. I would start with the Brownell's catalog, and search for "Gold Cup sights".

It can be found at http://www.brownells.com/Default.aspx

Gold Cup Sights..

Replace the factory 'rolled' retaining pin with a solid steel pin. The factory Gold Cup pin used to have a way of working out.

This was about 30 years ago..maybe Colt's learning curve has caught up with that little SNAFU by now.

salty.

These sights are outstanding (at least for me): .24/7 Big Dot

I got the large dot and haven't had any regrets. However, these are not for target shooting but when you mentioned night sights, I didn't think you had that in mind

What are you looking to improve thru replacement sights?

How will the gun be used most often?

Are nite sights perceived as being necessary?

Do you need adjustable sights??

You need to try to answer these. If so contributors here can give you better guidance.

If it is a range gun only, I would recommend Bo Mar adjustable sight for the rear and an appropriate post site for the front.

My 1996 production Gold Cup still has the goofy roll pin for the rear sight. Or I should say HAD the roll pin--I too, replaced mine with a solid pin.
