Just ran across this website: http://www.1911ultratool.com.

There are links to videos at the bottom of the page. Basically, he's designed/machined a small brass insert that replaces the Kimber "paper clip".

Looks like another gadget to consider for the cleaning kit.;)

It's the American way."

Same here. He plans to have a 4" solution by May. I might just buy one each for both the 3" and 4" Kimbers. The paper clip solution is lame, plus I like solid brass gadgets/widgets.:)

Yes the M1911 is its own tool box but it is best to keep in mind that this applies mostly to USGI guns that were loose-fitting and expected to be covered in dings and scratches anyway. Using the gun's own parts may not work quite as well with today's commercial and more tightly-fitted guns, and can leave undesirable ding marks or finish wear, which tends to bother some people on their $1200.00 Kimber or Springfield Ultimate Gold Match or whatever.

Nah, my $4-5K full customs don't need any fancy gadgets to detail strip.

Agreed. Ethically..IMO, a gunsmith should not be using the "1911 toolbox" as well

So you use a cartridge rim to remove your grip screws on your $5,000 customs? Okay.

Nope, have to use an allen wrench. How "fancy" is an allen wrench by your reckoning?
