Colt, Springfield or Kimber?

While I'm sure you'd be happy with any of the three, I'd recommend the Colt. It's the original, with roots going back to Alvin York in the WWI trenches and his Medal of Honor. The Colts were on Iwo Jima, Pork Chop hill, and Khe San.

Kimber and Springlfield make good 1911s that would serve you well. But they're Johnnys-come-lately in the 1911 world. That's not a bad thing, but Colt's history makes them unique.

Thoughts on this one in 38 Super?

I see this gun comes with fixed sights can I have a gun smith install adjustable sights on this gun? By the way I am favoring the blued model with rosewood grips, not the rail gun.

Thanks again for the input I have enjoyed the reading. I am leaning hevily towards the Colt, now I am thinking about the 38 Super vs. the 45.

Thanks,
David

Colt Gold Cup is a fine piece. I like Kimber too after you replace the plastic main spring housing. I would choose Springfield last...made in Brazil. I dont have anything against Brazil but I would rather pay someone in the US to make my gun.

Look at the S&W 1911. I have two and they are great! I also have an old MK1 Custom Classic Kimber that I got 15 years ago. I have never had one issue with it in the thousands of rounds that I put through it.

Well I had a chance to handle the STI Trojan, Kimber Super Match and the Springfield Trophy Match. The STI is very nice but the Kimber is calling my name. I think the model was the trophy match, very nice and it fit me great as well. Just a little concerned about dropping that kind of money with some of the feed back that I have read. By the way the STI was in 38 Super so that one is on the shrot list as well. Now I just have to find someone in the area with a Gold Cup.

Thanks again for the feed back,
David

The Trojan is a best buy in under $2k IMO. I would take it over almost anything until you get into Les Baer Price Range.

Colt. It's the only true 1911. All others are clones. SA makes a very good clone, Kimber can be sketchy. Colt uses the fewest MIM parts, has the resale/collector value, history... Need I go on?!

Functionally, the SA and Colt are relatively equal. With either of these, a change of magazine brand will solve most any function issues.

Gold Cup

Maybe you saw the recent post "Price Check" on a Gold Cup. That was local checking my ad.

Had trouble getting a read on current value for a slightly used, hard to find classic. Maybe you know a smith or dealer in my area to look at it for you. I would deliver it to the expert of your choice for appraisal.
