1911 Torture Test

I very much enjoy watching 'Guns & Ammo' Wednesday night on the Outdoor Channel. My favorite night of TV

I particularly enjoy their 'Torture Tests'. I would like to email them and request them to do one on a 1911, but I cannot figure out where to address such an email.

So in liu of that, I thought I would ask if anyone had heard of a similiar test conducted by anyone else. I am particularly interested to determining what conditions will cause a 1911 (Series 80 - with the firing pin block) to fail and make the gun go boom.

What set of test conditions would defeat the manual safety, the grip safety, the firing pin safety, etc and make it go bang without pulling the trigger. Like dropping off the Empire State Building but more scientific? I would like to read about a real test and not a bunch of theorectical stuff. Can someone point me to any?

though not a series 80, 1911tuner did a torture test on a springfield GI. If you search for that (springer through the ringer may have been the title?) you will be able to find out more about it. Pretty good test really. Good luck in your searching.

It was "Springer through the Wringer"...and I did try to break that gun. Whew! Did my level best, but without conspicious success.

The Series 80 system's reliability/durability depends largely on correct timing.
If it's right...and you keep it reasonably clean...the barrel will likely wear out before the system gives a problem. On the other hand, if it's NOT timed properly...you can expect trouble fairly early.

Accidental 1911 Torture Test

I was shooting my .45's, two in the waistband while I fired the third. My Springer Micro Compact fell out of my waistband and into the sand that is as fine as flour. I picked it up, cursing profusily, and examined it. It had sand in the mag, which was loaded, sand in the barell, in the slide, the trigger and grip safety. I too am a fan of G&A TV. I wiped out the barell and proced to unload the magazine by pulling on the trigger. Six rounds without a hitch! But that was all the punishment I could stand to give the little thing. Needless to say it got a thorough cleaning when I got home.
I have tried it so you don't have too, also I would not recommend doing so.
